Water Under the Bridge

Well, for those who read my book, The Ride, you'll noticed the background picture is the same. That's on purpose, as The Ride really was about bicycling around New Zealand trying to figure out things and get my stuff together. Towards the end of that trip I had settled into a little resort town on the north island called Whakatane and was sitting on a ferry waiting to go out and visit the (what turned out years later to be quite deadly) White Island volcano, when Robbie Williams' song "Strong" came over the speakers.

I realized in that moment that I felt good, and that I hadn't felt good in a long, long time, and that meant something was wrong, very wrong. It took me another fifteen years before I found out what. You can learn more about that trip at my other website here: The Ride

BTW if you don't know the reference, everyone my age and area grew up playing Pooh sticks. Here's the definition: Poohsticks. I prefer two words, not one.
