Two days before a friend's wedding the groom (my best buddy) and his bride requested I write a couple of songs. My buddy wanted me to cover the traditional song "Irish Blessing" and his bride wanted me to make something up. Yeah, two days before the wedding, and I had to write, memorize and perform it during the ceremony. No pressure!

Anyway, like some songs, this one came out of nowhere. I know I had been playing with some odd little Csus and Fmaj7 chords, and the Dm to Am change is pretty straightforward. How it all came together as it did, well, I have no idea.

I was working on figuring out the bassline (in Eb cause I put the capo on the guitar on the 3rd fret and it's in C) when I decided I really needed the vocals done to get it right. Out of nowhere, again, I nailed the vocals in one take. (Other songs like Sarah it might be twenty takes to get it right.)

This song, by the way, is when I first understood that I could write good songs, quickly, if I needed to, and that maybe, just maybe, there was some talent there.
